如今，于都河的水，宽阔美丽；但90多年前，它像是一条线，横亘在生死之间。
Today, the waters of the Yudu River are wide and beautiful; yet more than 90 years ago, the river stood like a line between life and death.

“如果过河很难，那为什么一定要走？”纪录片的行走者和观察者、中国政府友谊奖获得者、厦门大学美籍教授潘维廉与比利时青年媒体人彭望龙，带着心底最朴素的疑问，在于都县东门渡口——中央红军长征出发地的8个主要渡口之一——开启了对这段峥嵘岁月的深度寻访。
“If it was so hard, why did they do that ?” Carrying this simple but profound question, William N. Brown—a winner of the Chinese government’s Friendship Award and an American professor at Xiamen University—and Romuald Bronchart, a young Belgian media professional, began their in-depth journey into this remarkable chapter of history at Dongmen Ferry in Yudu County, one of the eight principal crossing points at the starting point of the Long March of the Central Red Army.
当年的抉择，始于绝境。战略转移，是保存革命火种唯一的出路。苏区百姓倾力相助，妇女夜以继日赶制二十万双草鞋，托举这支队伍奔赴未知远方。
The choice made back then was born of desperation. A strategic transfer was the only way to keep the revolutionary flame alive. People in the Soviet areas gave their all to support the army: women worked day and night to make more than 200,000 pairs of straw sandals, seeing the soldiers off toward an unknown future.
他们听到跨越三代人的寻亲往事：一位名为林罗发生的红军将士，自于都出发后便杳无音信；80年光阴流转，他的后人，在湘江战役烈士英名廊上，寻到他的名字。
They learned of a family’s search for a lost relative spanning generations: a Red Army soldier named Lin Luofasheng had set out from Yudu and then vanished without a trace. After the passage of 80 years, his descendant found his name on the Gallery of Martyrs’ Names for the Battle of the Xiangjiang River.
“我冒着雨含着泪给我父亲拨打电话，我告诉他，小爷爷是牺牲在湘江战役，这圆了全家三代人的寻亲夙愿。”
“It was raining that day. Standing in the rain, l called my father with tears in my eyes and told him that my great-uncle had died in the Xiangjiang Campaign. This wish of three generations was fulfilled.”
鄱阳湖上，候鸟翩跹，护鸟人驻守湖区四十春秋，巡护里程逾四十万公里；从徒步踏湖巡查，到AI智能识鸟，守护江河湖泽从未中断。
On Poyang Lake, migratory birds wheel and glide. A bird-protection ranger has spent four decades patrolling the lake area, covering more than 400,000 kilometers. From walking the wetlands on foot to identifying birds with the help of artificial intelligence, the effort to protect rivers, lakes and wetlands has never ceased.

实验室，科研人员数百次实验，调试光谱、培育作物。“没有百分百把握，但是，试了才有成功的机会，不试的话，机会永远为零。”
In a laboratory at Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, researchers have conducted hundreds of experiments, adjusting spectral parameters and cultivating samples. “To be honest, no very confident. But you only have a chance of success if you try. If you don’t try, the chance will always be zero.”
这份执着，与当年于都河畔的抉择，一脉相承。
This perseverance forms an unbroken line with the choice made on the banks of the Yudu River all those years ago.
长征从来不只是一个关于胜利的故事。八万将士踏水启程，并非早已望见彼岸，而是深知：不跨过这条河，便会永远困于原地。
The Long March has never been only a story of victory. More than 80,000 soldiers set out, wading into the river. They could not yet see the distant shore; they knew only that if they didn’t cross the river, they’d be struck there forever.
每一代人都会遇到自己的“河”，或宽阔浩荡，或凶险湍急，或静静流淌。但是，只要选择出发，那些看似跨不过的河，终会在脚下变成向前的路。
Every generation has to cross its own “river”—some wide, some treacherous, some flowing quietly. As long as one chooses to set out, the “river” that once seemed hard conquered will eventually become the path forward under one’s feet.
这正是国际传播纪录片《大道——永远的长征》所要传递的时代价值。
